Normally, we make both centerless grinding and hard chrome plating for our customers as it provides the best results.
The process starts with the finished and milled components being processed through our centerless grinder. It gives the subjects an unprecedented uniformity with an accuracy of 20 microns and a surface condition with a ra value of less than 0.5.
We perform centerless grinding together with hard chrome, or as an independent working process. Focusing on component roughness and finish.
Centerless grinding is a machining process where we remove material from a component by means of grinding stones and a brake roller. Centerless grinding differs from center grinding because no spindle or attachment is used to locate and secure the workpiece. The component is attached between two rotating grinding wheels and their rotational speed relative to each other determines the speed at which the material is removed from the component.
We use centerless grinding instead of other grinding processes for orders, where many parts are processed in a short time. And the process can dramatically increase the life duration. At the same time, the treatment gives a shiny surface, which is reflective, light and visually beautiful.

After the centerless grinding process is completed, all the components are passed through a washing machine that washes at 60 degrees to remove excess oil and abrasive residues. And then the components are ready to get the hard chrome plating.
Hard chrome plating
What is the advantage of using hard chromium plating? There is currently no alternative that provides equally good quality. The hard chrome plating provides an extremely hard, durable, durable, resistant and corrosion-resistant surface that significantly enhances the strength and durability of the components. Spaantec has been working with hard chromium plating for many years.
The chromium surface is created by an electrolytic process that places a thin layer of chromium on the components, which are usually made of steel. It is also possible to apply the process to other types of metal, such as iron.
The process through which the components pass consists of 6 steps:
- First, the components are immersed in a bath which, by means of anodic degreasing, cleans the surface completely before the further process.
- Then the components are run through 2 rinsing baths with clean water to prepare them for the next step in the process.
- In the third step, the items are treated with a chrome bath that prepares the surface and makes it more susceptible to the chrome.
- Then the chrome layer is applied in the desired thickness.
- In the fifth step – after applying the chrome – the components are run through 3 baths with water as the rinse aid.
- In the final step of the process, the subjects are treated with a corrosion agent that protects against rust and corrosion.
The process is completely waste-free, as it is all recycled. And the various baths are continuously tested, to maintain high, uniform quality.
After the process is finished, the components are packed and sent to the customers. Here are images of the process.
